What Happened to Magic Hat #9 | VinePair

Sometimes a seemingly easy story turns into a twisty slog. Last month, when my VinePair editor asked me to investigate the supposed end of Magic Hat #9, a trailblazing craft beer, I thought it would be a breezy trip down memory lane. RIP, my apricot-scented buddy, right?

But that easy-peasy ride down memory lane turned into a long-haul drive with unexpected detours. The brand's owners refused to comment on the beer's production status or provide much clarity.

So I changed course, tracking down Magic Hat co-founder Alan Newman in Mexico City and chatting with former Magic Hat brewers at Foam Brewers and the Zero Gravity team, which brews in the former Magic Hat facility. And then I wrapped up the piece with some fun reminiscences from folks. Thanks for chiming in, everyone! Link is in the ol' bio.

P.S. After the story was published, a company representative reached out to let me know that Magic Hat #9 was not being discontinued, but they had no additional information or clarifications to share. The mystery deepens!
