The Bud Light backlash has largely glossed over a pretty big fact: the brand has been in decline for years. The Atlantic asked me to look at how Bud Light first rose to prominence, and what the future looks like for a mass-market light lager that, though it's still losing volume, remains a behemoth. These aren't the party-hearty days of Spuds MacKenzie. We're a nation of not-so-united tastes filled with endless beverage options—and opinions too.
