I have seen my future heart attack, and it looks a little like this: The house special comes stacked with four kinds of piggy goodness: the torte de la casa at Brooklyn Puebla Mini Market (3908 Fifth Ave. betw. 39th & 40th Sts., 718-435-3326). It’s a stunning assembly of cured and cooked pig parts counting spicy carne enchilada, crisp carnitas, chewy bacon and salty ham—a mountain of meat bound together by beans, stringy cheese and crusty bread. It’s imposing, equal parts threat and a challenge, the shape and weight of a brick.
It is good. So, so good. I pen an ode to this torta, and other meaty marvels, over on Food Republic. Hungry? Take a bite!
